SUMMARY


Reporting to the Farming Manager, the Dairy Farm & Utilities Supervisor is responsible to train, monitor, assess, lead and motivate the farming team for daily operations ensuring an efficient, safe and clean environment. This position is also responsible for ensuring all facilities, equipment and irrigation systems are maintained in a satisfactory and safe manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
 
  • Coordinates day-to-day activities of the team
  • Participates in the interviewing of new hires and disciplinary actions
  • Provides training for new hires; monitors employee performance
  • Ensures that procedures are adhered to for plant cleaning
  • Ensures machines are functioning properly
  • Identifies and corrects unsafe and unacceptable practices
  • Troubleshoots and maintains irrigation systems

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Other duties and/or special projects as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:
  • Dairy practices and procedures
  • Safe animal handling practices
  • Federal and state regulations regarding safe handling and food techniques
  • Safety policies and procedures
  • Proper care and maintenance of tools and equipment
  • Irrigation systems and troubleshooting methods

Ability to:
  • Operate farm equipment – tractors, swathers, loaders, dump trucks, forego harvesting equipment
  • Maintain equipment and facilities – livestock bedding, water troughs, silage pit, lanes, barns, loafing areas
  • Operate GPS systems in equipment
  • Identify machinery, facilities and livestock issues and resolve in a timely manner
  • Lead, motivate and direct a team
  • Conduct employee training in equipment operations and safety procedures
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of staff throughout the organization
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with all co-workers and staff
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Work varied, rotating shifts which may include nights and weekends
  • Demonstrate consistency, dependability and punctuality in all aspects of the position
  • Work in a fast-paced environment
  • Stand for long periods of time
  • Obtain a private applicators certification

Experience and Training Guidelines:
  • Good interpersonal and oral communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and thorough
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Safe animal handling and working practices
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record

Physical and mental requirements
 
  • Frequent standing for long periods of time
  • Frequent grasping, holding, reaching, bending and squatting
  • Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds

Working conditions
 
  • Work is performed in an outdoor environment subject to typical street or field noise, including exposure to loud equipment and machinery
  • Subject to heat/cold temperature changes
  • Some travel may be required
