SUMMARY
Reporting to the Assistant Plant Manager, the Production Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities and workflows of all employees to promote the overall efficiency of plant operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Supervise all rail receiving, commodity loadout, flake grain grinder production employees on assigned shift 
  • ​Schedule and coordinate work hours and duties for employees on assigned shift; ensure regular and temporary employees are trained appropriately for assigned work  
  • ​Work with maintenance personnel on all issues pertaining to function and efficiency of facility; ensure timely follow-up of repairs 
  • ​Oversee housekeeping program activities for entire work site 
  • ​Coordinate logistics for receiving and loadout of all products 
  • ​Coordinate production schedule and volume with Dispatch, Trucking and Sales personnel 
  • ​Provide coaching and training of employees, including temporary employees; recommend employee personnel actions, including hiring, promotions, disciplinary actions and terminations to the Plant Manager 
  • ​Recommend and implement measures to motivate employees and to improve production methods 
  • ​Maintain a safe, clean and efficient work environment; ensure all safety processes and procedures are adhered to and enforced 
  • ​Coordinate and schedule all safety and regular employee tailgate meetings 
  • ​Develop knowledge and understanding of all systems in locomotive operation, rail receiving, releasing, rail traffic, scale operation, loadout procedures, sampling procedures, inventory processes and measurements 
  • ​Prepare daily and weekly reports for SJVAPCD and SPCC

QUALIFICATIONS

Skills & Competencies
  • Boiler operations and other equipment 
  • Safety, inventory and maintenance processes and procedures 
  • Computer systems to create spreadsheets 
  • Technical and mechanical systems related to operations 

Ability to:
  • Take and follow directions 
  • Maintain high-quality control standards; effectively problem-solve, supervise and troubleshoot 
  • Gain knowledge of locomotive operations to include scheduling of repairs and maintenance 
  • Handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines regularly and consistently 
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of staff throughout the organization 
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills 
  • Evaluate employees fairly and objectively 
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with all co-workers and staff, external personnel including BNSF / UP railroad personnel 
  • Work flexible hours

Experience and Training Guidelines:
  • College coursework in technical field desired 
  • ​Three (3) years’ demonstrated experience leading and directing a team in a production environment 
  • ​MS Office – Excel, Word; SAP experience desired 
  • ​Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize successfully                                                                                                                        
SPECIAL DEMANDS

Physical requirements 
  • Frequent​ standing and/or long period of time on feet, occasional bending, and squatting, kneeling.
  • Occasional lifting, and/or moving over 75 pounds.
  • Occasional grasping, holding and reacting.
  • Constant use of overall vision; frequent hearing and talking in person; may be required to wear ear protection or hear in noisy conditions.
  • Frequent co-worker contact; occasional working alone.
  • Available to response to emergency calls; work weekend and or holidays.
  • Available to climb ladders/stairs up to heights in excess of 100’
Working conditions
  • Work is performed in a typical outdoor environment subject to street or field noise and environment including loud exposure to loud equipment and machinery. Some duties involve working in a typical temperature-controlled office environment subject to typical office noise and environment. Position may require work outside regular business hours, including weekends and holidays. Occasional travel to other company locations.
