SUMMARY
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Maintenance Mechanic II is responsible for advanced troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on all equipment throughout the mill operation. This individual plays a critical role in minimizing facility downtime by proactively detecting, diagnosing, and resolving complex mechanical and electrical problems before they cause operational disruptions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Safely performing all phases of maintenance, including basic electrical and mechanical systems (i.e. fabricating, welding, troubleshooting, repairing, installing, and performing required preventative maintenance).
  • Maintain required records, reporting in writing any uncorrected mechanical/electrical defects and replacement parts to the supervisor.
  • Coordinating equipment downtime, services and problems with area operators and detecting potential mechanical/electrical problems and planning for repairs

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Perform related duties and/or special projects as assigned

  • Safety, inventory and maintenance processes and procedures
  • Computer systems to create spreadsheets is a plus
  • Technical and mechanical systems related to operation

Equipment Manual comprehension: Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance, service, or operation.
Follow Instructions: Reads instructions / labels and performs work as assigned by department supervisor or lead. 

Ability to:
  • Must have ability to lead and train lower-level maintenance personnel.
  • Mechanically, must: Be able to make decisions and judgments on an ongoing basis. Be familiar with all some phases of maintenance, including electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Know the proper lubricating technique for all mill equipment.
  • perform routine services and troubleshoot and repair all mill equipment.
  • weld and fabricate to repair all mill equipment, and installation of new equipment as needed.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision
  • Perform basic computers operations using Windows, Word and Excel.
  • Work in confined spaces and at high elevations up to 120 feet.
  • Perform daily safety inspections and identify safety hazards.
  • Learn how to load trucks with z-scale and Repete.
  • Work flexibly and varying work schedules including on-call, weekends holidays and overtime as needed.
  • Perform mathematical problems (add, subtract, multiply and division)
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions and problem solving.
  • Must have good communication skills and be able
  • To work as a team.
  • Work flexible hours; OT and rotating weekends and holidays
Experience and Training Guidelines:
  • College coursework in technical field desired
  • 2-4 years of production equipment maintenance experience.MS Office – Excel, Word
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize successfully          
SPECIAL DEMANDS

Physical requirements
  • Frequent standing for long period of time
  • Frequent bending, squatting and kneeling.
  • Frequent lifting and carrying of up to 75 pounds up to 120 feet.
  • Frequent grasping, holding and reaching.
  • Constant use of overall vision
  • Frequent hearing and talking in person; may be required to wear ear protection or hear in noisy conditions.
  • Frequent co-worker contact; occasional working alone
  • Frequent exposure to loud noise
Working conditions
  • Work is performed in a typical outdoor environment subject to street or field noise and environment including exposure to loud equipment and machinery.  May be exposure to loud noises and steam exhaust, and dusty, muddy and slick environment. Position may require work outside regular business hours, including weekends and holidays. Adhere to all PPE Guidelines as established by OSHA and the company
